MA in Peace and Development Studies

he MA in Peace and Development is a one year, full-time programme in which students investigate debates about the origins and nature of conflict and explore a range of approaches to conflict resolution. Students examine contemporary cases of conflict and responses to these in depth; and gain insights into the increasingly close connections between peacebuilding and development in theory and practice. The course prepares students from diverse backgrounds for a career or further research in related areas. Core modules are supplemented by electives, chosen from a wide range of courses; the aim is to enable students to develop expertise in their area of interest.

Students have the opportunity to undertake an individually supervised written dissertation and are given extensive guidance in the practical and theoretical challenges of independent academic research. They also benefit from an affiliation to the Centre for Peace and Development Studies.
