{"id":1220,"date":"2013-09-10T18:27:48","date_gmt":"2013-09-10T18:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/refugeeresearch.net\/ms\/km\/?p=1220"},"modified":"2013-09-10T18:28:44","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T18:28:44","slug":"resettlement-of-internally-displaced-persons-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/refugeeresearch.net\/ms\/km\/2013\/09\/10\/resettlement-of-internally-displaced-persons-in-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Antony Gitonga<\/p>\n<p>NAIVASHA, KENYA: It was song and dance in five IDP camps in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Mai%20Mahiu&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Mai Mahiu<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Naivasha&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Naivasha<\/a>\u00a0after the government embarked on a Sh3.3 billion programme to resettle them by the end of this month.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>The exercise is expected to be flagged off by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday in\u00a0<a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Mai%20Mahiu&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Mai Mahiu<\/a>\u00a0<a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714;font-size: 1rem\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Naivasha&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Naivasha<\/a>which is home to hundreds of IDPs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The IDPs met this with jubilation but expressed their pessimism and concern over the pending cases facing the top two leaders in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=ICC&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">ICC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the IDPs, \u00a0the Principal secretary in the ministry of devolution Gideon Konchellah said all the profiled families would get Sh400,000.<\/p>\n<p>Konchellah said that over 8,200 IDPs and forest evictees would benefit from the funds and challenged them to use the cash wisely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The government will use Sh3.3 billion to resettle the IDPs and forest evictees as per President\u2019s promise and we expect this exercise to be through by end of this month,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Konchellah was speaking in Vumilia camp in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Mai%20Mahiu&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Mai Mahiu<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?searchtext=Naivasha&amp;searchbutton=SEARCH\">Naivasha<\/a>\u00a0where over 250 families will be the first beneficiaries of the funds.<\/p>\n<p>The camp chairman Francis Karinge welcomed the funds and thanked the government for agreeing to end their suffering.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a dream come true and we shall make sure that we put the cash in good use and develop what we have,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Originally sourced from <a title=\"IDP's Kenya\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/?articleID=2000092910&amp;story_title=joy-in-idp-camps-over-sh3-3-billion-resettlement-fund\">Standard Newspaper in Kenya<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Antony Gitonga NAIVASHA, KENYA: It was song and dance in five IDP camps in\u00a0Mai Mahiu\u00a0Naivasha\u00a0after the government embarked on a Sh3.3 billion programme to resettle them by the end of this month.
