{"id":530,"date":"2013-03-20T13:20:09","date_gmt":"2013-03-20T13:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/refugeeresearch.net\/ms\/km\/?p=530"},"modified":"2013-03-20T13:25:17","modified_gmt":"2013-03-20T13:25:17","slug":"council-votes-in-favour-of-motion-to-help-undocumented-residents-cp24-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/refugeeresearch.net\/ms\/km\/2013\/03\/20\/council-votes-in-favour-of-motion-to-help-undocumented-residents-cp24-com\/","title":{"rendered":"Council votes in favour of motion to help undocumented residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div id=\"responsive_main\">\n<section>\n<div>\n<p>Chris Kitching, cp24.com, \u00a0\u00a0Published Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 11:04AM EST<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>City council has voted in favour of a motion that makes it easier for people without full and secure immigration status to access city services already available to legal residents of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>According to advocates, the proposed measures within the motion make it easier for newcomers to receive aid from places such as food banks and access health, employment and recreation services, and ensure their children can attend local schools.<\/p>\n<p>Syed Hussan, a spokesman for the Solidarity City Network, said there are about 400,000 people in Toronto who don\u2019t have full immigration status.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1\" title=\"City hall\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cp24.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.1052243!\/httpImage\/image.jpeg_gen\/derivatives\/landscape_960\/image.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"City hall\" alt=\"City hall\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cp24.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.1052243!\/httpImage\/image.jpeg_gen\/derivatives\/landscape_225\/image.jpeg\" width=\"225\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Toronto City Hall is shown in this file photo.
