As a pre-curser to the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, New Zealand’s formal refugee resettlement programme is usually considered to have begun with the arrival of these Polish refugees. As New Zealand Red Cross has played a key role in resettlement both then and now, we are marking this occasion with the presentation of two awards to former refugees:
