To what extent and in which ways has immigration over the past few decades changed the face of Swedish society? How do individuals and organizations deal with a social environment characterized by rapid change and increasing cultural diversity? These are the issues with which the Multicultural Centre is centrally concerned. The research work of the Multicultural Centre is carried out mainly in the municipality of Botkyrka in the south of Greater Stockholm. Researchers from the Multicultural Centre ethnologists for the main part meet the local inhabitants in their everyday milieu. By means of interviews and participant observations, the life stories of individuals as well as the working of various parts of the public sector are accessed for research.
