Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurial Capacities in Southern Sudan: Assessment and Opportunities

In 2006, Plan International entered into a partnership with the Government of Southern Sudan
(GOSS) to support the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the
region. This study reports on this work, extending a growing body of research based at the Centre for
Refugee Studies, York University, and informing the work of Plan International and other
organizations interested Southern Sudan’s development. The study seeks to explore the benefits of,
and suggest improvements to, existing plans and strategies for addressing TVET rehabilitation and
development challenges and opportunities, including:

  • Rehabilitation and construction of TVET facilities
  • Support for the development of a comprehensive curriculum, policies and standards for TVET
  • Introduction of TVET models, institutions and other opportunities to Southern Sudan
