2004/2005 EC Community Action Programme to Combat Social Exclusion funding (co-applicant and co-researcher with G. Dona, University of East London). Awarded for the project European Port Cities: disadvantaged urban areas in transition, a collaborative research with the University of Hamburg, Germany, University of Dublin, Ireland, University of Macedonia, Thessalonica, Greece, and University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, as well as several NGO partners. (Total project funding received for year 2004 is €147,147.37, funding available for each academic partner for year 2004/05 is approximately €18,500; the grant is administered through the University of Hamburg).

2000/2001 The Hayter Fund small research grant. Awarded for a comparative project on integration of refugees in Italy and the Netherlands – fieldwork/visit to the Netherlands (£1,500). 00/01 The British Council research grant. Awarded for a comparative project on integration of refugees in Italy and the Netherlands - fieldwork/visit to the Netherlands(£1,500).

1999/2000 The Oppenheimer Fund small research grant. Awarded for a comparative project on integration of refugees in Italy and the Netherlands (£3, 000)

1998/1999 Ford Foundation research grant (co-applicant with W. Giles, York University, Canada). Awarded for a comparative project on the situation of women in the conflict in Sri Lanka and the Post Yugoslav states (US$ 270,000).

1997 Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, Professional Partnerships Programme. Award for the project: Workshop on Women in Conflict Zones: Women's Organising Against War and Nationalism. Organised and facilitated at the 6th International Meeting of the Women's Solidarity Network Against War, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, August 7 -11 (CAN$ 1,000).
