Sri Lanka: medical letter writing action: effective medical reports needed to aid prosecution of rape of women in custody

During 2001, Sri Lanka saw a marked increase in allegations of rape in custody by army, police and navy personnel. Most incidents have occurred in the context of the armed conflict between the security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fighting for an autonomous state in the north and east of the country. Among the victims are many internally displaced women.
